A USEFUL COMPARISON

Let the content guide the design.

Start with the information the reader needs. A visual preference matters, but the amount of experience, the application route, and the shape of your evidence should inform the choice too.

Layout familyA useful reason to choose itWhat to review
MinimalYou want a direct chronology, conventional headings, and an uncomplicated reading path.Keep enough space between roles; a simple page can still become crowded.
EditorialYou want a distinctive introduction for creative, communication, or established professional work. The typography should support your evidence. Check grayscale contrast and long names.
Two columnYour supporting skills and education are concise enough to sit beside a clear work history.Inspect the exported text order. Choose one column if the application requires it.

Preview the same content in two layouts before deciding. This makes it easier to notice how a large nameplate changes the available space, whether a sidebar is genuinely useful, and where a long qualification wraps. A design that looks balanced with the sample may need more editing with your own history.

YOUR WORDS COME FIRST

From a sample to a document you can send.

01

Gather the facts

Keep job titles, employers, dates, education, and relevant contact details beside you before editing. Choose the experience that answers the target role. The sample is fictional: use it to understand the layout, then replace every claim with information you can explain.

02

Edit the whole page

The browser editor updates your document as you type. Keep the profile focused, separate roles with blank lines, and use one contribution per experience line. The website keeps a fixed section order. Save a text copy as you work because refreshing or closing the tab can lose changes.

03

Inspect the actual output

Use the browser print dialog to review page breaks and choose Save as PDF where available. Check the file at a comfortable reading size, test contact links, and inspect the text order. If the employer asks for DOCX, use a tool that creates that format rather than renaming a PDF.

A FEW SMALL CHOICES

The details that make a template feel considered.

01

Edit before shrinking

If the resume feels crowded, look first for repeated responsibilities, a summary that restates every skill, or old details that no longer help. Smaller type can disguise the problem on screen while making the final document harder to read. Preserve useful context and give important evidence room.

02

Keep the reading order clear

A recruiter may skim the page while a form extracts text from the file. Familiar headings and dates beside the correct role help both tasks. Copy text out of your final PDF and check its sequence. Compare the extracted text with the visible document and correct any missing or misplaced details.

03

Keep a master and a submitted copy

Your full career history and the focused application serve different purposes. Keep an editable master, then save the exact version you submit with an identifiable filename. That copy is useful when an interview invitation arrives and you want to revisit the evidence the employer has seen.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you choose your layout.

What can I download?

Every layout offers a plain-text starting file and a browser editor. Save your edited text or use the print dialog to create a PDF where your browser supports it. The website does not create DOCX files. The separate CVura app supports PDF and DOCX export.

Can I change the section order?

The website editor uses Profile, Experience, Skills, and Education in a fixed order. Empty sections are omitted. If your application needs a different structure, use the downloaded text in an editor that supports the required arrangement and review the finished document.

How should I check the file before uploading?

Follow the employer’s instructions, use selectable text, and inspect the exported reading order. A one-column design provides a straightforward sequence. Review any fields populated by the application portal before submitting.

Is my work saved automatically?

No. Edits stay in the current tab and are not uploaded or automatically stored. Download a text copy before leaving or refreshing the page. Your browser controls where downloads and printed files are saved.

Are the website templates the same as the app templates?

These thirty layouts are original website designs. CVura is a separate app from the same publisher and may offer different layouts and editing options. Check the app’s current listing for its available features.

TEST THE LAYOUT WITH YOUR REAL CONTENT

A beautiful sample is only the beginning of the design decision.

A template preview is balanced around a particular fictional profile. Your name, job titles, qualifications, and amount of experience will change that balance. Before committing to a layout, test the details most likely to stretch it. The useful question is whether the design still establishes a clear reading order after the sample has been replaced with the information your application actually needs.

Cobalt folded cloth, coral board, brushed aluminum, and ivory textured stock arranged on a studio table.

The long title that changed the choice

Everything in this layout case is fictional. Isabelle chooses a narrow sidebar design for an application to a laboratory operations role. Her qualification title wraps onto several lines, while her most recent job includes two distinct workstreams. The sample looked spacious, but her first personalized version makes the sidebar dense and separates a role heading from its explanation.

Stress the content

Paste the awkward details first

Isabelle tests her longest employer name, full qualification title, and most detailed role before polishing the profile. These are the pieces most likely to reveal an unsuitable width or page break. She also checks how her real contact information fits instead of assuming the sample's shorter details are representative.

Compare fairly

Use identical words in two layouts

She places the same edited content in a simpler layout. Holding the wording constant makes the comparison useful: she can see the effect of the sidebar, heading size, and available width. Otherwise, a shorter second draft might make the second design seem better for the wrong reason.

Inspect the output

Review what the recipient will open

Isabelle checks the browser print preview and the saved PDF where supported. She looks at normal reading size, reviews any second page, and copies a passage out to inspect its order. The layout decision remains provisional until the actual output keeps headings, dates, and supporting text connected.

Two ways to deal with a crowded qualification

Shrink everything to fit
Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Operations and Quality Practice · completed 2024

The fictional qualification is long. Reducing all body type to accommodate it treats the whole document as a spacing problem. The title must stay accurate; the surrounding structure, width, and unnecessary repetition are better places to investigate first.

Keep the qualification legible
EDUCATION Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Operations and Quality Practice Fictional Northbridge Technical Institute · 2024

Giving the qualification a clear line and separating the institution can make its relationship easier to read when the layout allows it. Check the available layout controls in your editor, then inspect the exported file.

A useful template test before you commit

  • Does the longest heading still work?

Check your actual name, employer, and qualification. Avoid judging the layout only with short placeholder text.

  • Can each date be matched to its role?

Inspect wrapping and page breaks so the timeline remains understandable without guesswork.

  • Is a second page doing useful work?

Look for an isolated heading, a nearly empty page, or repeated material that could be edited without removing relevant evidence.

  • Have you saved your words separately?

Download a text copy before refreshing or leaving this website's editor. Edits stay in the current tab and are not saved automatically.
